Debbie's Message about Holiday Booty Market!

So have you ever been to Europe around the holidays and checked out the amazing open air markets? Awesome, right? Well, we Craft Mutineers want to recreate a little of that holiday awesomeness at our Booty Market. Think twinkling lights, hot drinks, music and cool goods for sale! Outside! If only it would snow..... You'll get to shop outside (so wear something warm) and party inside (wear cute socks because you may be asked to take your shoes off)! If you're bringing kiddies we'll have some old school holiday movies playing to keep them occupied while you snack and mingle. Hey, anyone got "The Year Without a Santa Claus" on dvd?? I love that Heat and Snow Miser song! Heh.

Hope to see you! Feel free to invite a friend who digs handmade goods!

PS: If it rains we will move the whole shebang indoors, of course.

cyber monday indeed

Today is Cyber Monday, the biggest shopping day of the year online. I didn't know this until I heard it on NPR this morning, but I should have known. My pile of orders from the weekend was big enough for me to handle, but this morning has been insanely busy. Everytime I write an address on an envelope to pack an order, another one pops into my email box. It is lovely, but scary! I fear I will sell everything before my 4 December shows!

Anyway, I am doing a new print run of the zombie shirt and the octopus shirt, so if you would like to special order something, please email me as soon as possible! I also have tons of my sister's monster purses that aren't in the shop right now. Oh! And the Zombie Plague holiday cards came in! Half of this run are already sold, so if you want some, order them now too!

Whatever you buy today, buy handmade or from a small business! It makes people happy!

We spent the long weekend in the country at grandma's house. Here are the girls outside. Today, they aren't adjusting to apartment life very well. Poor city ladies.

two girls, one mama

This is Anya's intense look.

The behavioral battles have begun. This means that my girls understand way more than I thought they did. This also means that I need to be aware of everything I do. Every pickle given to Rachel first is seen by Anya, every nighty kiss to one is seen by the other, every front seat stroller ride is a slight. It is like I have two boyfriends, but they know about each other. There is no sneaking around, it is all out in the open and someone is always unhappy. Since Rachel is more agressive in her love for mama, it is often Anya that gets left out. I didn't know anything about this at all, of course, until this week when Anya decided to tell me about it.

She did this in the only way she knew how. It involved a 30 minute tantrum whose main goal was to make sure Rachel didn't have a bottle and Anya got two. Of course, I did what any mom would do, I just introduced a third baba into the mix. Nope, Anya's goal was to have all the babas and for Rachel to have none.

It makes me sad. It is not fair for two ladies to only have one mama. My sister and I are 3 years apart and I remember hating her when I was like 5. She was 2 and so so cute, she had totally ruined my life. It must be even worse to have an identical you getting mama's attention. Of course, I love my sister now, but I am pretty sure I wasn't the best sister to her until we were adults. But, now we make each other laugh until we cry.

Each time I see someone steal a toy and then bite someone else or push someone to the ground on the way to being picked up my mommy, I think about how the "twin bound" that some people talk about is just a myth.Or perhaps it takes all these experiences of sharing resources to develop this bound. Like cell mates in jail or something. :)

So my job as twin mama has gone from not only making sure they feel loved and entertained and accepted, but that they get all of these things equally.

OK, some girls are trying to feed me some grubby crackers. Must make sure I eat one from each now.

Happy Thanksgiving.

holiday cards!

I commissioned some zombie art from my friend Scott and just couldn't wait to use it on something. So this morning, I designed these holiday cards. I rather like them. I was just going to order some for me, but then thought someone else might like them. Anyway, you can pre-order them in the next two days, this way I know how many to get made. They will be ready the first week in December, just in time for you to send them to friends and foes.

The cards are blank inside and come with envelopes. You can get them in packs of 1, 3, 6, or 10. But remember, I am only making enough for people who pre-order! Pre-order the cute Mr. Z zombie cards.

I have increased my shipping charges in the shop from $2 per item to $3.85 so that all holiday orders go out Priority mail. iF you don't want to pay for fast mail, you can just email me. Some items have changed to free shipping if they are small, though.

Thanks to Scott for birthing the zombie for me.

holiday zombies

I have been making zombies like mad for the 4 smallish sales that I hope to be doing in December. The first is the Craft Mutiny's first group sale ever. It is an open house/holiday party and I really hope you will come out even if we have never met! Here is the info:

The What:

Craft Mutiny Holiday Booty Market featuring awesome stuff from your favorite Mutineers (list to come).

The When:

saturday, december 2nd, 2:00-7:00 pm

The Where:

The Rock-n-Romp House, Silver Spring (email me for address and directions!)

Drink, Snack, Shop! The best of the holidays rolled into one awesome party!

Here are pictures of the cards and shirts that I have been working on. I am also working on some zombie dolls with the top secret new zombie art that Scott B. has been slaving over for me. I added all the shirts and cards to both the shop and my etsy store.

These are the backs of the zombie dolls:

This flurry of making is reminding me that I plan to retire some designs in the new year. Printing old sayings makes me feel tired and numb. So, the Bubble Bobble Clone design will be retired in the new year. I have about 20 or so shirts left in that design and they are mostly in the shop now. Not sure what other design will be retired, gotta figure that out.

I will be selling at 3 other venues in December in the DC area, info on those will come soon!

time to buy

I feel like the internet is telling me that it is time to start buying xmas gifts. I got a nice big order today and finally sold the Dance Floor skirt! I love that skirt and hope the purchaser loves it too!

Threadless is having a $10 sale and will be putting out loads of new shirts.

The new version of Etsy is still down, can't wait to see that too.

Who needs the mall when we have the internet?

After a week of sick sick, we all go outside to feed the ducks.
This is Malcolm X Park, the park that we can see from the Solarium. Below, the girls get a little freedom:

zombies at handmade arcade

Some of my Craft Mutiny members will be selling their cool stuff at Handmade Arcade in Pittsburgh tomorrow. Since I can't really travel with the girls yet (could you imagine a 4 hour car ride with twin 1 year olds?), my friend Joy from Charming Vices offered to take some zombie t-shirts with her to sell. I also sent some cards. Whoohoo! So, check out her booth on Saturday. Here's the info:

Handmade Arcade
Construction Junction
Nov. 11, 2006, 11 AM - 7 PM
214 N. Lexington Ave
Pittsurgh, PA

I just added these zombie magnets to my etsy store:

We have all had a stomach virus this week. It has been the first sickness since I started staying home though and I am pretty sure Rachi brought it into the house from the cart in Target. One sickness in 2 months isn't bad at all. We did spend 3 hours at the hospital making Rachi drink Pedialyte out of a syringe like a baby bird, though. Poor lady was dehydrated. It was funny to watch her bounce back and come to life again. Makes me wonder if some adults I know walk around dehydrated all the time.

5pm appointment with Mr. Bingo and Phil

Emily in London is dreaming of my girls' future. From an email yesterday:

After seeing Rachel and Anya on your blog a few weeks ago i had a dream about them. I dont know if you remember but when you were heavily pregnant i dreamed that i was in a Olympic Swimming Relay race and you were in it too and the girls kicked inside you and made you go fast and me, you and the other swimmer got bronze? Well the other week i had a dream where Rachel was sat in a adult sized wing backed leather armchair reading the Guardian broadsheet newspaper. I t covered her completely cus she was the same size as in real life and she had little gold rimmed glasses on and Anya came in the room wearing paint splattered overalls and wiping her hands on a rag and told Rachel not to forget the party. Rachel said they'd go to the party after the meeting. Rachel told Anya that they had a 5pm appointment with Mr. Bingo and Phil to discuss the floor plan (of what i dont know) and the bell rang and Mr Bingo and Phil came in and they were cats, they carried tiny briefcases in their mouths and showed Rachel and Anya blueprints for a building! Goodness knows why i dreamed that!!

I do hope that their future is full of talking cats with blue prints.

Now, who wants to draw this as a children's book? ;) It would be called Rachel and Anya meet with Mr. Bingo and Phil.

November 4, 2006

we listen to music. we are the music. we are tiny djs.

Anya puts her hand up to her ear as if she is holding a headphone up to it. She looks like the tiniest DJ. She starts to move her shoulders from side to side to tell me she wants to listen. Rachi sees her do it and starts to move her hips. I start to hum, "da da da. la la la" and they get excited. So I get my tiny ear buds and tiny green ipod and they each hold an ear bud up to a tiny ear. The first notes start and eyes get big big.

I ask them if they want to listen to music and then take a nap. They line up in front of the baby gate as if lining up for a show. The gate opens and they run as fast as they can to the bed. Up up up we go and all lie down. Squirmy girls excited for the ear buds again. Ida's "Shoe-in" plays and Anya hums while Rachi moves her hands in a tiny dance. I sneak a listen from one ear bud. "Come to dinner with me. We'll take Al's Comet, he'll never know." The last time I listened to this song, I remember walking alone to work. This was a long time ago. My hair was brown and I remember feeling lonely for no reason. What if life sometimes gets confused and you feel the loss of something that hasn't happened yet? Do you know what I mean? If I had known that the next time this song would randomly come to me, I would be spending the afternoon with tiny girls. If I had known. I am always always always wowed by my life. Can the current you sense the future you? I talk in circles, but I know what I mean. Maybe you do to.

These are just the start of the girls' relationship with music. And it is totally rad to be the DJ, if just for these first days.

Cheese and Trees

The girls are kicking my ass today. They won't eat and only want bottle after bottle. Babababababababababa is all I hear. Other things they have been doing all day are, stealing toys from each other, screaming, wanting to be held (both at the same time) and then pushing each other away. Poor ladies. They have also been trying to climb the baby gate into the forbidden zone that is the bedroom and bathroom and turning the tv off and on. I put a bandaid on Rachi's face to cover an itchy bug bite, Ani rips it right off. I try to feed them this wonderful lunch and they throw it to the dog:

Grilled cheddar on whole wheat with tiny pickles and garlic broccoli. I tell them they are having "Cheese and trees" for lunch. "Treeees," Anya replies and sucks the garlic off of the broccoli.

Ani had to carry that cat sweatshirt around with her all day. If she wasn't holding it, she was wearing it. I remember I bought it out of a $1 bin when I was pregnant. She points to it and says, "kiddy. neh neh neh." She tells all animals "no no no".

It was a long day for me because Jeff had to work late, but at least Caitlin (newest member of the Craft Mutiny) stopped by to break it up and I had a conversation with someone who didn't want me to make her a baba.

Looking back on the photos from the day, it doesn't seem so bad. It seems charming and lovely. I am tired, though. Only one day left until the weekend.

Here is Rachi wearing my new hat. Isn't is amazing? I bought it on Etsy from ultimaesperanza8.
