Rain or Shine!

Busy busy collecting and pricing al of my new stuff. I stayed up late last night making mirrors. One says, "Some day we will all be ghosts." I love this one. Another says, "Let's throw a party for guide dogs." The guide dog mirror itself isn't great, but I love the line.

Remember that Crafty Bastards is rain or shine! It isn't only supposed to rain until about 10, and we all have tents! Plus, if it really rains, we can move into the school. So, please come by and say hi!

3 days away!

I am the Washington CityPaper's Craftiest Bastard of the week! Whoohoo!

I am slowly getting things crossed off my list despite Jeff having to work late and early and my own work on top of it! I used my last gocco screen to silk screen this new design onto about 15 shirts. The next round of this design will have a funny zombie, but I just couldn't wait to get this on shirts! I also screened it on a rad nurse's uniform skirt (sized 6).

Then, last night, Jeff and I finished the new Craft Mutiny! website. Not much content on there yet, but it is a start and it has a nice blog where the mutiny gals and I will team blog. Check it out!

Today, as the girls napped, I packed up all my silkscreened cards and counted them. I have no idea how much to sell cards for, though!

I find that the only way to get anything done is to maintain momentum and a postive attitude. This morning, the girls were kranky and screamy, so I set about getting them to nap and did some work (real paid work), and then had time to package the cards. Here's hoping the next 2 days go as well as this morning!

Some answers to questions I have gotten lately. The blog book was printed by ComixPress. I seleted posts, had my friend, Lisa edit it and then Jeff laid it out in Indesign. It was a lot of work! Comixpress will print on demand a trade paperback or even a regular comic book. Their prices are good and their work looks great. Second question. The monster purses will be at Crafty Bastards, some will go up in the shop if we don't sell them all. Small/med ones are $12 and bigs ones are $15. Those are my answers! If we tell ya something different on Sunday, remind me of this post. :)

puppet show

It is official. I have children and not babies. This is exciting. I turned the corner from the kitchen to the living room and found Rachel putting on a puppet show for Anya. I know she learned this last week from my friend, Lisa. Thanks Lisa! She went on long enough for me to take this picture:

6 days left

There are only 6 days left until Crafty Bastards. My sister, Lisa, has been hospital sick and unable to sew. She is bummed about this and tries anyway. She is working on these rad monster purses:

I have a long list of things to complete on the wall. Jeff says, "You haven't crossed anything off your list." I keep getting distracted with new ideas that aren't on my list. I ironed letters in a shirt today that said, "Sometimes I worry about zombies." It made me happy. I like ironing on letters.

Do visit me. I am booth 18 at Crafty Bastards on Sunday, October 1, 10-5, located in the plaza of the Marie Reed Learning Center, on 18th St. NW between California and Kalorama in Adams Morgan, Washington DC, 20009. Say SEAWEED and get $1 off your purchase!

the little book

The little book arrived yesterday. I gathered up the girls and went to the lobby to get it. Jeff was working late and there was no way I could wait to get it.

It is tiny and green with 100 pages. I thought I would be a little disappointed at how slim it is, considering it is a collection of my blog posts for over 2 years. But I wasn't at all. I was so excited to see it. Blogging is so great because it is immediate, but there is a satisfaction in holding this tiny book in my hands. Wanna see?

The little green book has been added to the store and will ship on October 1. It is self published, so a limited run.

What would a good mommy do?

Week three and Stead Park has baby swings. We put them to good use and the wind blows through our hair. I tell them all day they will get to swing and "weeeee". When we get there, Anya is fast asleep, but Rachi holds on tight and laughs as she is pushed into the air. I wonder if a good mommy would let Ani sleep or wake her up for the swing. I pick the waking. So, out of the stroller she comes and into the rubber seat. "I told you weeeee swing and you will get weeee swing," I whisper in her tiny ear. She looks at me with sleepy eyes. Off she goes and when she connects with my hands again, she looks up and twinkles her eyes and squeals with delight. The good mommy picks the swing over sleep, I think.

This is my 300th blog entry.

what we wear

The best thing about not going to work is that I can wear the same thing all week long, or at least until it starts to smell bad. My sister got this skirt for me at a consignment shop, and I have worn it for the past 3 days. I asked her to buy me skirts to write on, but this one was too perfect to iron letters on to.

Rachel, on the other hand, has refused clothes other than a diaper all day long. She looks a bit savage.

pandas and their poop

My friend Scott drew me a new panda. This new panda shows his love for his poop by hugging him. When Scott was working on this for me, I told him, "I want the poop to look like the top of a Dairy Queen ice cream cone and I want him to be almost the size of the panda and I want him to be happy." Scott got it just right, but wanted to know why I referred to the poop as a him. I told him that if the poop looked more Japanese, it would have been a she, but this poop looked Canadian.

This is the new refrigerator magnet, just added to the store:

Look for this design on shirts and cards soon.

making making making

We are still working fast fast on new stuff for Crafty Bastards. I silk screened about 50 Stress and the Modern Octopus shirts in a huge range of sizes and colors (even girlie and kids!). Here is a purse that my sister did for a custom order:

I hope she makes more.

More photos of my progress tomorrow.

week two

Week two and things are continuing to go well. The bad teething episodes broke for an evening (they seem to be getting 3 teeth each, though) to go to the Washington City Paper's Crafty Bastards vendor party. This is a fun event for Jeff and I because last year it was the first time we took the girls anywhere with confidence. It was rad to be there again this year with crawling people rather than sleeping babies. The girls really loved the Crafty Bastards puppets and keep pointing to them on my t-shirt whenever I wear it. Rachi wore the best color combination: lime and red:

We also got to see fellow members of the Craft Mutiny, which was fun.

Crafty Bastards is only 19 days away! I still have so much to do! I did silk screen 50 Stress and the Modern Octopus shirts, though. Just added one of those on an American Apparel Classic girl shirt to my etsy shop.
http://www.etsy.com/view_item.php?listing_id=456453. They came out really well.

so much better than sitting at a desk

2pm and the girls and I are piled up on the solarium floor. Having taken off their shirts around noon, they look like the prettiest boys of summer in their bare tops and small jeans. Rachi is kissing Anya's cheek and Anya is laughing big and big and big. We are a pile of silly girls. Anya looks at me with this twinkle and takes her new teeth and sinks them into my arm. It hurts like the bite of a tiny yippy dog and I say no and she laughs some more.

This is so much better than sitting in an office all day.

first full day mommy mommy

On my first full day as a mommy at home, we celebrated Halloween in September. We put on our orange and black and read books about pumpkins.

These are my new work shoes:

Skully Anya:

They look like they are in a band:

Let's make some noise:

My first day alone with them was surprisingly easy. We read tons of books all morning. Anya can say what sounds like "Read it." Then we watched Wallace and Gromit, then beat on some pots, took some naps and Rachi told me all day long that a dog says, "Ruff ruff ruff." Rachi also told me at 2pm that she wanted a snack, by sticking out her tongue and saying, "yum, yum." Another thing I didn't know about the girls is that they like to spend a good part of the day without shirts. Perhaps this is new, but I found myself helping girls out of shirts at least twice.

I even got in some email answering, work for my job and order packing. I also did the dishes and put toys away 4 times. This new life might suit me.
